Puns

Word plays are very common in dreams.

Often an object can be seen having another meaning:

I was offered some champagne (Sham-pain).

I had to look after a gila monster ("gila" is pronounced "healer" so I'd look for some sort of healing taking place.

There was a safe but I couldn't tell if it was really a safe or just a drawing of a safe. I'd see the word safe meaning secure and I'd consider whether the dreamer meant that he/she couldn't tell whether they were safe or not.

I saw my girl friend. She was sitting at a pine table. Perhaps she's pining for me or I wish she was pining for me, or I am pining for her.
