Dream Analysis
In a general sense, dream analysis means working out what the dream means using
analytical (i.e. logical/thinking) methods. This is in contrast to non analytical methods
such as using psycho-drama to act out the different people in the dream.
Dream analysis usually means an intellectual approach rather than a feeling approach to
the dream.
"Analysis" is a general term often meaning psychoanalysis in which the
analysand goes on the couch for 4or 5 days a week for several years. (Obviously, if you do
it, you think it's the only way to go).
Freud is considered the father of dream analysis. His method, psychoanalysis, is used
by psychoanalysts. It involves free association and generally considers the dream as a
kind of cover up for the real wish that the dream is concealing.
